Looking west along Shandwick Place.  The Tower is St Andrews church.

Wednesday 25 May 2011

Binn's Clock, West End

Binn's has long gone having been taken over by the House of Fraser many years ago but the clock is still often referred to by it's original name.

Tuesday 24 May 2011

Sign of the Times

Had occasion to be next door visiting the folks from the International Book Festival this morning. I'm sure Mr Salmond would already be away at work.

Museum of Flight

Well I have now been on Concorde but at considerably less than the speed of sound.  Today is an Edinburgh holiday, Victoria Day, not greatly observed. Yesterday was blustery but today is a lot worse and the winds are disrupting flights.  Flying on this aircraft would not have been great if you had any sense of claustrophobia.

Sunday 22 May 2011

Edinburgh from Prestonpans

A blustery day at the seaside with a view of arthur's Seat and Edinburgh.

Saturday 21 May 2011

Newhaven Harbour

The building in the background was the old fish market.  A small market still runs there and there is now a very good retail fishmongers. There are also two restaurants.

Wednesday 18 May 2011

Charlotte Square

Morning in the square. The old St George's church is part of the Scottish Record Office.

Dean Village

Dean Village washing in, I think, Well Court.

Thursday 12 May 2011

Walkway.

Sticking with the redevelopment.  This walkway and landscaping are at the end of the Western Harbour but just to the right, out of the picture, instead of buildings we have holes in the ground.

Wednesday 11 May 2011

This is one of the waterfront developments that has been completed.  I suspect the architect was keen on Lego when young.

Tuesday 10 May 2011

Road to Nowhere

With most of the development stopped due to the financial crisis there are many roads going nowhere in particular in Edinburgh

Monday 9 May 2011

Harrison Park

Edinburgh has many green spaces, this small park is in the south of the city between Gorgie and Merchiston.

Sunday 8 May 2011

Departure

The passenger ship Expedition leaving the sea lock in Leith harbour. On cruise duty, next stop Lerwick.

Dumbiedykes to the Castle

A telephoto shot from the shoulder of Samson's Ribs, Dunbiedykes to the Castle.

Friday 6 May 2011

Evening News

I wouldn't normally purchase this "newspaper", Edinburgh's daily evening paper, but I wanted something for the blog to reflect the day.

Thursday 5 May 2011

Newhaven Light

Newhaven Harbour and the Fife coast beyond.

Wednesday 4 May 2011

Merchant 's Hall

Or more particularly the pediment above the main entrance in Hanover Street. More information on the following link.  http://www.mcoe.org.uk/home.html

Tuesday 3 May 2011

Princes Street

Princes Street would look a lot better if the third rate Corporate branded fronts of the shops could be done away with. Not a lot you could do with the modern excrescences though.

Royal Scots Memorial

The statue in the Gardens but effectively on Princes Street.
