Lampost

Edinburgh has lots of old ornate lamposts but the addition of modern lights tends to spoil them.  On a very grey day, here is one just outside work in Leith.

  1. Hmm - it is incongruous, and a bit of a shame seein' as how the lampost itself is rather nice. When you look at other city daily photo blogs you notice that lamp posts often lend quite a bit of character to street furniture. Torino Daily Photo for example

  2. Aye but to be fair, it is just the lampost opposite the work. Not exactly a conservation area. In some posher areas, presumably with local pressure, they have done a bit better. Nothing as grad as Torino though.

  3. Oh - so I see. Quality of our surroundings and the fabric of our sensibilities depends on being in a posh (white-settled) area no doubt. I think other places have their sights set higher. Why didn't they just rip down the old lamp post and turn it into scrap metal....

Wooops - I guess that was a rant....
