Sir Walter and the Ferris Wheel
A very dull day so I thought I would stick to the "Fair" for a shot. The wheel is adjacent to the Scott Monument but it seems not to bother the author one bit.

Ice Break
Typical build up in the freezing conditions. Soon to be a thing of the past. Raining heavily now and things rapidly melting.

Stockbridge
Looking over Stockbridge to St Mary's. It has turned cold again and there are still piles of snow. More forecast with high winds by Wed/ Thurs. Great.

Inverleith Pond
Back to minus temperatures again. Still a lot of ice around on pavements and here on the pond. One small corner cleared for the birds but thin pickings. Depending on handouts this orderly queue approaches their benefactor.

Red Sky in the Morning......Tony Update
A colourful sky this morning as I arrived at work. Unfortunately there isn't much in this area to put in the foreground and I can't get a higher viewpoint. Yesterday I glanced towards Tony who had set up a wave around his shoulders as the swollen stream rushed past. Thought this would be good to illustrate the current thaw but.......
he has disappeared again. The water isn't any deeper but there must have been sufficient pressure on his new bolts and he has dived in. You can see the difference if you compare this with the Dec1st entry.

Thaw
A dull day but positively balmy at 6 degrees C. Roads are clearing and tomorrow should also be warm so hopefully the pavements might clear before the cold returns.

Princes Street
The junction of Princes Street and the Mound. One of the few areas where the pavements have been cleared. We now have a thaw and the iced pavements are doubly lethal with a thin film of water. Next week another freeze.

Bruntsfield
Snatched while out delivering. Clockwise from top left. The Castle looking down Heriot Place. Ice mining in Bruntsfield. Glengyle Terrace and Bruntsfield Links looking to Arthur's Seat. Bruntsfield Place . The wee chap in the middle just needs a bigger seat.

Pavement
This little moonscape is the pavement outside Boots Pharmacy on Ferry Road. It does lack a bit of scale but the passers by were reluctant to enter and have their feet photographed. Some of this lumpy solid mess is about 4 inches thick. At minus 12 you would probably need a pneumatic drill to have much of an impact on it.

More Snow
I just opened the door and snapped this. This has kept up most of the day and there was no way I was going to struggle to a more picturesque spot. Chaos everywhere. Best stay put.

Cool Couple, Inverleith House
In the Royal Botanic Gardens, Inverleith House is a venue for art exhibitions. No attribution for this temporary work.

Tail of the Bank
Over in the west, the Clyde estuary with the entrance to Loch Long on the upper left and Kilcreggan on the opposite shore. A submarine returns to the base at Faslane. A lot less snow on this side of the country.

Tony and Snow
If you are made of cast iron you don't really mind the cold. The rest of the citizenry of Edinburgh are not quite so hardy. The snow and the cold goes on and the chaos gets worse. As Tony is close at hand, he makes the blog. I would like to venture further but common sense says it is not a great idea at the moment. Maybe tomorrow.

It has been about twenty years since we have had as much snow so early on in the winter. At least the Ski folks will be happy. Forecast to be cold for another 10 days.

This block of flats with,(largely unoccupied), offices at ground level sits by Coalhill on the Shore in Leith. I always feel it looks rather lost.

North Bridge
The North Bridge, below is Waverley Station, running in to Waterloo Place and Register House. On the left the Balmoral Hotel, the old North British as was. To the right the old Post Office building with the shadow of the old Scotsman building falling on it.
