Castle and Construction

From Keir Street this morning.  The crane denotes the start of the construction for the esplanade seating for the Tattoo and other events.  Ruins the tourists photos. Taken with my phone.

The Old Town

From Regent road with the new (relatively) council offices and the recently finished roof of Waverley Station. The curve of Jeffrey Street can be seen again on the left.

All those chimneys and not one reeking. From the castle battlements looking north.

David's Tower, The Palace.

The "Honours of Scotland" are on display and the link should lead to a video of the Palace interior.

Castle Entrance

Looking down the Esplanade to the High Street.  Summer almost seems to have arrived and the next few posts will be of the Castle. http://www.edinburghcastle.gov.uk/explore-the-castle/about-the-castle

Debenhams

On Princes Street, one of the older facades.

International Rescue

Well attempted at least.  The staff and clientele of Bon Papillion in Howe Street used anything at hand in an attempt to extricate a green cockatoo (or some such escaped exotic bird) from  under the car.  The creature was spotted by two young American ladies but the bird didn't seem to realise that all the efforts were in it's best interest.  It was still at large when I left.

Gogar Junction

One of Edinburgh's numerous bottlenecks and a thoroughly rotten day to boot.

Backcourt

Many of the buildings in the Royal Mile were replaced with flats.  Sometimes the attempt to blend into the old street are passable.  This backcourt has more than a hat tip to the old tradition of the external stair.

When things get desperate they throw the pillar box at the attacking forces.

The statue used to be on the Esplanade but has been moved into the Castle precincts beside the War Museum.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Haig,_1st_Earl_Haig

Tweedale Court

Just off the High Street through Tweedale Close, the old premises of Oliver and Boyd, medical publishers long gone.  http://www.edinburghcityofprint.org/pages/the-printing-industry/printing-houses/oliver-boyd.php

John Knox's House

Watery morning light in the High Street. Looking a bit tired, could do with a makeover.

Arthur's Seat and the Salisbury Crags.

With the green space of Greyfriars and the modern buildings sticking out like sore thumbs.

Granton Harbour

Passing this morning, phone again, definitely an improvement on the old one. Moorings filling up, summer must be here.  http://www.rfyc.org/

Malleny House

In Balerno in south Edinburgh owned, I think,  by the National Trust for Scotland but privately occupied.  The garden is open all year and is an NTS property.

Fettes College

Fettes is really a school rather than a college.  It is a Public School and therefore private.  Tony Blair would be it's most infamous former pupil.

The International Brigade

Appropriate, I think, for May Day. A plaque in Princes Street Gardens.
