Weather not improving any. Just as wet and windy.

Portree Christmas Tree

Blown down several times.  I think they have given, sensibly, winds forecast to gust up to 100mph tonight.

It was another stormy night with much rain and hail and this was the view from the front door this morning.

Laggan Dam

This is obviously not Edinburgh. Off on a week up north for a quiet Christmas on the Isle of Skye. Very wet on the way up with swollen rivers everywhere. All the sluices open on the dam.  Getting a bit dark on the shortest day.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laggan_Dam

Leith Docks

The only activity this morning, a little freighter loading up.

National Economic Forum

Held in Surgeons Hall.  This was a questions and answers session with members of the "Cabinet".  Mike Russell Secretary for Education; John Swinney, Finance; Fiona Hyslop, Culture and Exterrnal Affairs; Derek MacKay, Local Government and Planning. Everyone looking suitably serious as they had drawn the short straw.  The First Minister was off to meet with Colnel Chris Hadfield the "Singing Astronaut".

All the recent bad weather has completely stripped the leaves from  most trees. This is Constitution Street in leith.

Harvey Nichols

The department store on St Andrew's Square.

Big Wheel

This is a new wheel as well as position and orientation.  Enclosed cabs, a bit bigger and not very interesting lights.

Tuesday, 10 December 2013

Star Flyer, St Andrew's Square

The modern version of the old chair-o-plane.  The white lights are on the bottom of the "chairs". You can whizz round above Sir Henry Dundas on his column 150 feet up. There was much screaming in evidence when I took this.  https://www.edinburghschristmas.com/starflyer

Christmas Tree

The official Edinburgh tree on the Mound, gifted every year by Norway.

Assembly Rooms

More like George Street from the Assembly Rooms.  At a Christmas Craft Fare.

Wheel

In its new position.  On a dull day not very inspiring.  Have to come back at night.

Water of Leith

High winds, low pressure and lots of rain.  The Water of Leith in spate.  There was a tidal surge at Newhaven Harbour which all but covered the benches. http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/edinburgh-weather-travel-chaos-latest-updates-1-3220338
