Street Performance

Fine weather, plenty of tourists and the Festival approaching.  The annual influx of street performers has started. This gentleman is from Perth.  Juggling, fire eating, bed of nails and a bit of sword swallowing all in a day's work.

Castle

Snapped on the way back from Pitlochry, from Ferry Road. The staging on the Esplanade looks a lot more obvious than the old kit.

Darkness at Noon

Well, slight exaggeration, darkness about mid afternoon.  Granton Road and the edge of the the thunderstorm. I blame T in the Park, better than the rain dance.

Adam Smith

Adam Smith a famous son of Kirkcaldy, author of "The Wealth Of Nations" and the less well known "Theory of Moral Sentiments".  The statue is on the High Street by St Giles.

Deacon Brodie's

A well known pub in the Royal Mile.  The signs illustrate Brodie's duplicitous character.  A respectable member of the council by day and a burglar by night. He was eventually "fun oot" and hanged on a gallows he designed himself.  It is thought that his life inspired Stevenson's Jekyll and Hyde. More information here

Esplanade

Every summer the Castle Esplanade is home to the Military Tattoo and temporary seating is put in place.  The ancient system of previous years is being replaced by this modern version currently under construction. It is still really close to the expensive flats of Ramsy Gardens. Two performances a night on a Saturday, one for the rest of the week starting at 9PM and goes on for 3 weeks.  Day off on Sunday. Would you want to live in the Gardens?

The Philosopher's Toe

This is David Hume's statue in the High Street. A warm, sunny Sunday with the hordes of tourists. It has become the done thing to toch his toe.  I have no idea why but check the polish.  Perhaps he will transfer a little bit of his Enlightenment philosophy if you do it often enough.

Private View

My great-neice Erica at the opening of Raymond Murray's  show "Tall Ships & Puffers", mostly puffers. This was her favourite work.

Spillage

This is a part of the breakwater for Leith Docks. Just liked the combination of colour and texture.  The tin of paint was washed up by the tide.
