Water of Leith

The rain has been heavy but not so bad as had been expected.  The WOL has risen enough to cover the banks and "islands" in the industrial sector of Leith but is far from being in spate.

Rain

Dreich view for a dreich day.  A bit worse than dreich and deteriorating. Met Office has severe weather warnings out for today and tomorrow.  Looking towards Arthur's Seat from Libberton Cemetery.

Lambs House, Leith

Another "Doors Open" visit.  This is in the final stages of a supberb restoration.  It was part of the National Trust for Scotland but not one of their open buildings. It was in a poor state of repair but has been taken over and restored by the architects Groves Raines. It will be both office and home.  The interiors are brilliant (but photography not permitted). http://www.oldleither.com/LambsHousearticle.html

David Octavius Hill

Appropriate for a photo blog.  D O Hill and his partner, Robert Adamson were early pioneers in photography. This weekend is "Doors Open Day" in Edinburgh and this is the Dean Cemetery.  The bust was sculpted by his wife Amelia Paton who is buried alongside him. The mason seems to have made a mistake with the spelling of his middle name.
