Raining all morning but it has eventually stopped leaving a dull day. More gravestones, this time in the Cannongate Kirks burial ground. On the Left Kirkcaldy's most famous son, Adam Smith of Wealth of Nations fame. On the right the Poet Robert Fergsuson who is hardly known today.

In the centre Agnes McLehose who was "Clarinda" to Robert Burns' "Sylvander". Their parting was the inspiration for one of Burns' best known works, "Ae Fond Kiss".

Adam Smith - Kircaldy's most famous? Are you kidding? What about Jocky Wilson - not to mention a certain Gordon Brown .... ok some are best forgotten
ReplyDeleteWell Jocky has just about disappeared from the collective consciousness and Gordon might soon start fading. Mr Smith is still a feature after over 200 years.
ReplyDeleteHang on -what about Jack "Sleaze" Vettriano?
ReplyDeleteMy first experience of glamorous night life was curiously enough in the Shore Disco in Kirkcaldy. Who would've though umpteen years later I'd be scouring something called Wikipedia for nuggets like this.....
Fading. Most paintings in last weeks auction failed to reach their reserve price. Only 3 sold. Kircaldy and glamorous.....don't quite go together, do they.
