Very nice pictures, but what makes you so sure it's a man-pigeon?
I found this advice on sexing pigeons on a fancier's site:
"the male has a big, round top o the head, and a big gullet and he may flair up when he is in mating mode the female, coos less, and has a flat, smaller head. press on the lower back where the white fearhers are where the wings cross, if it is a coo sound that comes out, it is male. if a squeek sound comes out, or a peep, it is a female."
The bright guy on the left is the male. I am not about to attempt capture, the RSPB would probably have me arrested. Subsequent to the the necking routine there was "other activity", quite disgraceful in public but sufficient to indicate sex, unless you get gay pigeons.

Go on - try pressing one!

ReplyDeleteAnd did it coo afterwards, or peep?
