Kirkgate

This is a shopping centre in Leith.  I'm surprised how much a bit of sun, blue sky and a colourful passer by improves the look of what is a bleak mess.  60's "knock down the old" did for the original Kirkgate.  It is just next to South Leith Parish Church and Trinity House both wonderful old buildings.  If they had restored the Kirkgate the place would be a national treasure.

  1. That's my tree! I planted it at the opening of the New Kirkgate, so that would be around 1968. Children from local schools went along to plant the trees, and then there was a party in one of the empty shops. I think there were 3 trees originally, so glad my one is still there : )
